Clear instructive video and plans

The videos that accompany the plans are worth the price alone. I've purchased a few plans from other locations and while they are good alone. The videos with alternative process selection makes the absolute difference! I'm rewarching the videos again and next weekend going to get all the wood needed to start on the great workbench that will also be the outfeed table for my Sawstop.

Excellent course

The bench design is impressive—balanced between simplicity and complexity. Scott provides outstanding explanations and videos, and the plans are thorough and exceptionally well-crafted.

Fun and useful build

I have been slapping wood together and calling it furniture for a few years now. I was using a awful, oversized, disfunctional workbench that would rack when I looked at it wrong.
I needed something a bit more sturdy and before jumping into building a nicholson, Scott came out with this course and the storage looked awesome and this looked more useful than what the brits had put together hundreds of years ago.
The course didn't dissapoint. I already had all the tools I needed, but after going through the course, I learned some tricks that helped me feel more confident. Ripping sheet goods down to a "rough" dimension to bring to the table saw was so much easier than trying to be accurate using circular saw jigs and tools.
I had a reason to finally use that dado (dato?) Stack that had been collecting dust and man what a blast.
The paper plans with the course (ya i like to print my stuff out) were clear, but anything I wasn't sure off were cleared up with the videos.
The other nice thing is, the build is forgiving if you aren't perfect and lord knows I am not. The bench came out gorgeous, the storage works great.
Here is something that may help convince you to try this bench out. I have owned a few handplanes for years. But for some reason never could get them to do my bidding. I thought i just sucked at sharpening or something. Turns out, it was my bench. It was racking and shaking so much, I couldn't slice butter with the plane. I noticed an immediate difference when i had to use my #5 to bring the vise chops level with the workbench. It being as sturdy as it was, my plane sliced through the pine like butter.

Tl:DR: great study bench, with plenty of storage, good plans and guidance.

About Me

Woodworking has been a passion of mine since I was a kid growing up in Newfoundland, and would deconstruct things just so I could rebuild them. In High School, I maximized the space in my tiny bedroom by building myself a loft bed out of my Dad’s workshop. Shortly after, I combined woodworking with my other passion, drumming, and taught myself to build a snare drum from scratch.

After flying the nest and landing in Toronto, I built out my first shop. It was a 40 sqft basement cellar that leaked worse than a bad marketing scheme, but it was mine, and I loved it.

When the pandemic hit, a reduced load at work meant that I had the opportunity to spend more time in my shop – now a 120 sqft windowless basement room. My friends and family had been telling me to film my work for years, so I finally succumbed to peer pressure and launched my YouTube channel in 2020.

Now I'm stoked to be operating out of a tiny 220 sqft single-car garage that I renovated myself. I often cater to audiences with small shops because that's what I know best. I hope that through watching my trials and errors in the shop, by sharing my expertise, discoveries, and designs, I can inspire other hobbyist woodworkers to explore and expand their own craft. I sell plans and courses to take out the guesswork and give fellow woodworkers the chance to build alongside me.

FAQ

Is this course for me?

Yes. This course is designed for woodworkers of all levels, particularly beginner to intermediate home hobbyists.

Will I be able to ask for help?

Yes! At the bottom of every lesson there is a place to ask questions and I'll do my best to respond to every single one in a timely manner.

Do I need a table saw?

Although it might be possible to construct the bench without a table saw, the instructions largely revolve around having one for simple operations like ripping, crosscutting and making grooves.

Do I need a cabinet-style table saw, or can I use a jobsite table saw?

You can definitely use a jobsite table saw to build this workbench. You should have ample outfeed support for longer workpieces, such as an outfeed table or roller stands.

Do I need a miter saw?

While it's preferred to have one available for longer and larger crosscuts, you can definitely get by without one. Be prepared to crosscut long workpieces with a circular saw if you don't have a miter saw.

Do I need a jointer or planer?

Nope, I do not use either milling machine in this course. If you have these machines and want you have as straight lumber as possible, you can of course use them, but start with material that's thicker and wider than dimensional 2x4.

Do I need a band saw?

Nope.

Is the project in imperial or metric?

The project is in imperial. I do not get asked for metric plans often enough to justify making them, but keep bugging me and maybe I will.

How long do I have access to the course content?

There is no restriction for how long you have access to the course materials.

Can I download the videos?

Unfortunately, due to a few surprising attempts to pirate my paid content already (I know, I'm a pretty big deal), the course videos are not available for download. But the PDF plans are downloadable and printable for reference in your shop if you do not have internet access there.

What happens after I make the purchase?

You will receive an order confirmation email. You will also receive a second email with a link to access the course content. Please make an account on the website to be able to return to the course whenever you like, without having to search through your email.

I didn't get any emails?

Check your spam folder. C'mon, this is basic stuff.
